She was born in Muskegon on January 14, 1968 to Valentine C. and Cecilia J. (Williams) Obptande. Michele was a member of the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.

She enjoyed bird watching and spending time with her family. She is survived by her children, Felicia (George) Dood and Timothy (Rochelle French) Holman; two grandchildren, Hannah and Matthew Dood; and three brothers, David Elmer, George R. Elmer, and Cassidy Obptande. She was preceded in death by her parents.
