OBITUARY Mikel Fain Bowling April 11, 1957 – October 15, 2018 Iowa Park, TX – Mikel Fain Bowling, 61, of Iowa Park, TX was born on April 11, 1957 in Wichita Falls, TX to Earnest and Alberta Olene Bowling. He ended his journey on Monday, October 15, 2018 surrounded by his family. Mike graduated from Holliday High School in 1975 and attended Tarleton State University where he earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Industrial Technology with a minor in Education.

He married his best friend and the love of his life, Janet Lee Boon, on June 6, 1981. Mike worked in education for 28 years teaching welding, woodworking, world history and driving a school bus for special needs students. He finished his career in Iowa Park CISD when he retired in 2013.

Mike was a man of faith. Not faith in an idea but in Jesus. His faith was evident in the way he loved and served others but also in the way he lived life as he fought cancer for over six years.

Mike was a man of peace through the whole experience and influenced so many of his friends, family, medical staff and other patients who consistently commented on his spirit and positive perspective. His hope was not based on being a good man, but rather his dependence on Jesus and the salvation he had accepted from Him. Jesus made the difference in Mike’s life and is the hope for all of us who look forward to seeing him again.

If you wanted to find Mike, you would probably find him with his Janet or outside where he’d be mowing, sculpting mesquite bushes into real trees and feeding his catfish. His favorite helpers were his grandchildren, who were happy to fish, explore and burn mesquite stumps. They were and will continue to be his most cherished part of his legacy.

Mike loved those kids and those kids love their Pops. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 18, 2018 at Faith Baptist Church in Iowa Park with Pastors Tim Franks and Boon Bowling officiating. Visitation will be held from 6-8 PM on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at Dutton Funeral Home.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls. 4909 Johnson Road Wichita Falls, Texas 76310. Carrying his memory are his wife of 37 years, Janet Bowling; a son, Boon Bowling with wife, Jessica, and their three children, William Fain, Evan Luke, and Audrey Elaine; and son Ben Bowling with wife, Allison, and their four children, Mali Joy, Tenley Grace, Cora Brynn, and Karis Kate.
