Mildred Irene Payne, 93, of Shawnee, KS, passed away Friday, May 10, 2019 at Shawnee Heartland Assisted Living surrounded by her family. She was born December 12, 1925 in Kansas City, KS the daughter of Leslie Earl and Bernice Florence Holmes. On May 4, 1946 she married the love of her life, Charles William Payne, who preceded her in death.

Irene was very active in Grandview Christian Church. She was on many committees and served as Elder of the church. She spent her time playing cards and doing other activities with her church community.

Irene would often drive others who could not make it to church otherwise without her. She was a kind and selfless person. Even more important to her was raising her family.

She loved spending time with her kids and grandkids. She was their biggest cheerleader at their sporting events and in life. Irene remained active in a walking club where she would walk daily.

Her sparky, vibrant personality will be missed. She is preceded in death by her husband, Charles; a son Micheal Payne; a grandson Lee William Payne; a brother; and two sisters. Irene leaves behind two sons, Charles William Payne Jr. and wife Donna of Shawnee, KS and Terry Lee Payne and wife Susie of Kansas City, KS; five grandchildren, Micheal Sherman Payne II ( Lisa); Leann Payne VoorVart (Allen) Charles Adam Payne (Jennifer), Matthew Brandon Payne (Michelle), and Amy Payne Irvin (Nick); twelve great grandchildren, Tristan, Melody, Ethan.

Owen, Delaney, Carlyn, Lauren, Makenna, Brayden, Lydia, Maci, and Will; and a great great grandson, Atticus. A visitation will be held from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. with Funeral Service beginning at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at Maple Hill Funeral Home. Burial will follow at the Maple Hill Cemetery.
