Mildred “Sis” Nemeth passed away January 2, 2019 at her sister’s in Gahanna, Ohio. Sis was born May 24, 1935 in Steubenville, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Mildred Nemeth (Pachmayer); her sister Margaret Cipriani (Nemeth) from Weirton, WV and her brother Frank Nemeth from Tennessee.

Sis attended Steubenville High School where she was a football preview queen, a cheerleader and a member of the 1952 graduating class. Sis was a charter member of the Nu Phi Mu Sorority and served as the social chairman for the local chapter. She was chosen by the Steubenville and Weirton chapters of the sorority to represent both chapters in the national “Valentine Girl” contest.

Sis was employed by the Ohio Bell Telephone company and participated in the marketing campaign for the “Princess Telephone”. In later years she was employed by Steubenville Water Department. Sis was Episcopal but attended St. Matthew Catholic Church in Gahanna with her sister.

She very much enjoyed a new tradition, going out to breakfast or brunch after Sunday Mass. Sis enjoyed walking and would walk several miles each day, she liked yard work, and she enjoyed making minor repairs to her home. Throughout her life Sis suffered several chronic illnesses and beat each one but it would be cancer that would end her life.

Sis leaves behind a sister Marlene Taylor (Nemeth) from Gahanna, Ohio; her brother-in-law, Joe Cipriani from Weirton, WV, and many nieces and nephews. Sis had wonderful neighbors and friends that she felt fortunate to have and enjoyed throughout her life. It was Sis’s decision to have graveside services rather than visitation.

She will be laid to rest beside her parents in Union Cemetery on Friday, January 4th, 2019 at 2:30 PM with Fr. Ryan Gray officiating. There are angels living among us and in the most trying of times they came to Sis through Hospice of Central Ohio to sit with, give aid to and provide comfort.

Contributions in Sis’s name should be made to Hospice of Central Ohio; 805 Hillsdowne Road, Suite A; Westerville, Ohio 43018; (614) 891-6000; and to the Steubenville Police Department who were so kind to my sister through the years. My sister always said when she needed help “two young, good-looking Steubenville police officers will always show up to help me”. My heart felt thank you to Steubenville’s wonderful women and men in blue.
