Monica’s Obituary Monica Agnes Lippold, 33, peacefully ended her battle with cancer on May 14th. Monica was born in Kansas City, MO on February 19, 1986 as the second of ten children to Thomas and Laura Walter. From an early age, Monica established herself as a compassionate sister and a positive force for all her siblings, a role she continued even through her last days.
Monica attended St. Vincent de Paul Academy for elementary and high school. She graduated from Rockhurst University in 2010 with a Bachelor’s degree in English and Masters in Occupational Therapy. Her passion for travel and sense of adventure led her to Hawaii, where she worked with young children and later to Oregon before returning to her home in Overland Park, KS.
Monica continued to work as an Occupational Therapist at KU Medical Center where she impressed everyone with her strong work ethic and positive and calm nature. Monica married Christopher Lippold on May 22nd, 2014 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Kansas City, MO. They have two beautiful children, Benedict Christopher, 4, and Charlotte Grace, 18 months.
She was fiercely dedicated to her Catholic faith and her family. Monica loved to spend time with her husband and two children, nine siblings and four nieces and nephews. She could always be relied on to lead the family, whether it was planning celebrations or counseling siblings through challenging times.
Always pragmatic and insightful, Monica’s advice was highly sought after by everyone in her family. Monica was dedicated to sharing the importance of family and faith to her children. Aside from being a committed mother and wife, Monica would often be found indulging her lifelong passion for reading.
She read everything from the classics to modern fiction, and was especially fond of Russian literature. Monica was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer in June 2018 and faced this challenge with incredible courage. She never let her disease define her and continued to live a beautiful and fulfilled life despite the challenges of her disease.
Monica inspired countless others with her faith and courage in the face of her illness. Monica is survived by her husband, Christopher Lippold, and her two children, Benedict and Charlotte, her siblings Tim, Chris, Erica, Patrick, Victoria, David, Anastasia, Emma and her parents Tom and Laura. She is preceded in death by her brother Benjamin.
A Rosary will be offered for her with a visitation to follow at Muehlebach Funeral Home (6800 Troost Ave) on Friday May 17, 2019 at 5:30 pm, with a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church (31st and Flora) on Saturday May 18, 2019 at 10:00 am. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to an education fund for Benedict and Charlotte.
