Diana was born in Grand Junction, Colorado. In her early years, she and her two siblings, Dean and Roxanna were raised by her parents, Matthew and Doris. At 6 years of age, Matthew took a job with Kaiser Steel and moved the family to Bloomington, CA.

Soon after graduating high school, she married Philip Smith and had four children of her own. She met her first husband, Philip, at Bloomington High. She married and had two sons and two daughters, Phillip, Christopher, Cynthia and Jennifer.

Diana met her second husband Theodore Borkstrom in the mid 80’s. They had a daughter, Michele. Looking for better opportunities, Diana, Ted and all five children moved to Florida, living there for two years.

The family then moved to Long Island, New York, where they lived for approximately 3 years. The economy wasn’t going well so they packed the family up and moved back to Fontana, California in search of better opportunities and to be closer to family. In the nineties, Diana returned to school in hopes of working in the medical industry.

After a few very challenging years of school and raising 5 children, she received her certification and began working for Portamedic. Diana was an extremely hard worker and had excellent people skills, this led to her advancing very quickly in the company and becoming a branch manager in a short period of time. She worked very hard for her family and even though they did not have much, there were always things to be thankful for.

Due to health issues, work became increasingly difficult to continue, so she retired early on disability. This was a setback for Diana, but she took advantage of this time to really focus on her children and grandchildren. Diana was not about materialistic things; the value she found in life was more about the small things and her family.

She was the best cook and made magic out of the barest of pantries, she saved every single birthday card, hand-written drawings, pictures, notes and memories she could. She spent her final year between San Bernardino and Victorville, CA, near her children and grandchildren. Being around the grandchildren and taking care of her youngest grandson Noah was what gave her the strength to fight her health issues.

Diana, fighting as hard as she could, succumbed to her health issues, March 16th, 2019 at Victor Valley Global Medical Center. She is survived by her 5 children: Phillip, Christopher, Cynthia, Jennifer and Michele; 12 grandchildren: Nathaniel, Alyssa, Fernando, Brianna, Phillip Jr., Michael, Aiden, Christian, Joseph, Romeo, Anthony and Noah; Two siblings: Dean and Roxanna: and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Rest in Peace, Mom.
