OBITUARY Myra Gene Hettic July 5, 1926 – November 29, 2018 Play Tribute Movie Myra Hettic, 92 of Overland Park, Kansas, passed away gently on November 29, 2018. Myra was born July 5, 1926 in Westminster, Texas to Eugene and Beatrice Arrington. Her parents moved to Fargo, North Dakota where she graduated high school.

After that, she attended a business college in Tulsa, Oklahoma where she received an associate’s degree. She then moved to Liberal, Kansas where her parents were living and worked at the Citizens State Bank. On one particular evening, she was invited to the Liberal Country Club to meet a handsome young soldier, William Ray Hettic, who had completed his tour of duty at the end of World War II.

He became the love of her life, and a year later they were married in the Liberal First Christian Church. Several years later, they started a family and had four children who dearly loved her: Cheri, Sandy, Michael and Matt. In Myra’s earlier years, she enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, painting, playing bridge and dancing with Ray at the country club.

Her other interests included church, Eastern Star, The Ladies Red Hat Society, and PEO. She also supported Ray as he was involved in a number of civic organizations. One that is memorable is when they traveled to Olney, England representing Liberal in the annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Day Races.

Myra and Ray enjoyed ski trips, camping in the Rockies, sailing, swimming, water skiing and traveling in the US and abroad with family and friends. Most of all Myra treasured spending time with her family during holidays, birthdays and other occasions. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray, of 68 years; her son, Michael Hettic and her parents, Eugene and Beatrice Arrington.

Myra leaves many loving memories with her daughters, Cheri Vrbenec and her husband, Norm, Sandy Bonar and her husband, Don, also her son, Matthew Hettic and his wife, Amanda, her grandsons, Adam Vrbenec and Aaron Vrbenec and his wife, Jami, and her great grandchildren, Sophia and William Vrbenec. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed, not only by her children and family but by her many friends. Also, the family wishes to express their gratitude to Gene Deppen, her companion, and his family for their constant love and support.

A family celebration of her life was held at McGilley and Hoge Johnson County Memorial Chapel in early December with Interment at Leavenworth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Parkinson’s Foundation of the Heartland, 8900 State Line RD #320, Leawood, Kansas 66206.
