Myron B. “Mike” Maddex, 94, formerly of Springfield and Mechanicsburg, went to be with the Lord at 1:24 PM. Tuesday, November 13, 2018 in Springfield Regional Medical Center. He had been a resident of The Grand Court Assisted Living facility in Springfield, and more recently, of the Oakwood Village there.

Mike was President of the Resident Council of those Senior retirement facilities, during his stay at each of them. He was a member of Southgate Baptist Church in Springfield. Mike was born in Mechanicsburg, OH on May 20, 1924, son of Walter O. and Eva Mae (Brown) Maddex.

He was married to Wilma Jean Anderson on March 29, 1943 in Mechanicsburg. When his wife “Jean” died in October 2008, they had been happily married for 65+ years. Together, they had 3 children – Jim, John and Martha.

They had 7 grandchildren; 6 step-grandchildren; and 13 Great Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister Miriam Powell; daughter Martha Burton; and wife Jean. He is survived by his sons Jim (Joyce) and John (Tonya); and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Mike was graduated from Mechanicsburg High School in 1942, and of the Coyne Electrical and Radio School in Chicago that same year. During High School, he worked at the Hanly Clothing Store, and drove a truck for Bud Perry, both of Mechanicsburg, before Radio School and the Army. He entered the Signal Corps, attached to the Air Corps (Air Force today) March 1, 1943, during World War II, then served in New Guinea and Manila, Philippines installing and maintaining Aircraft radios.

He was discharged in December 1945, and returned to Mechanicsburg to the Schetter Jewelry and Radio store, repairing radios and TVs until January 1952, when he opened Maddex Radio and TV in Mechanicsburg. Mike became a Christian in December 1951, along with his wife, Jean. Wanting to be in the ministry, he joined the Radio Staff of the Moody Bible Institute of Chicago, in January 1954, leaving in March 1965 to become General Manager of Christian Radio Station WEEC in Springfield OH.

He was named President in 1967, holding both offices until retirement at the end of December 1998, culminating a 45 year history of ministry in Christian Radio. Mike served as National Secretary of the Executive Committee of National Religious Broadcasters for 3 years early in the 1980s; served on the Board Of Directors there for 25 years; was the first President of the Midwest Chapter, then served for 3 years as President of the Ohio Association of Evangelicals. He was listed in Who’s Who in the Midwest in 1983, and Who’s Who in America in 1986.

A Memorial Service is planned at the Southgate Baptist Church on Sunday, November 25, 2018 at 3:00 PM. with Rev. Bobby Hile, presiding.
