Nancy G. McIlravy, age 80, of Norwalk, died peacefully Tuesday, April 17, 2018 at Regency Care Center in Norwalk. A visitation will be 2:30 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, April 22nd with a Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Monday, April 23rd at O’Leary Funeral Services in Norwalk. Burial will take place in the Webb Cemetery at a later date.

Nancy’s Life Story Nancy was born on September 4, 1937 at the old hospital in Creston, IA.

The daughter of Gail E. and Francesca Emerson Brown, she graduated from Creston High School with the class of 1955 and then Creston Junior College in 1958. Nancy worked as an elementary school teacher in Villisca, Algona, and Swea City, IA. In Algona she met her husband Dean McIlravy.

They were married on February 23, 1959 and to this union had three children, David, Randall and Debra. Nancy and Dean moved to their current home in Norwalk in 1966. In Norwalk Nancy was a childcare provider and worked for the City of Norwalk as a Police and Fire Dispatcher.

She was a former member of the First Congregational Church in Creston; Norwalk Fire and Rescue Auxiliary; served on the Board of Directors – Animal Lifeline of Iowa Inc., a no kill animal shelter in Carlisle; and Hawkeye Acres Gas and Engine Association. Nancy worked and volunteered at many different organizations throughout her life, many of which included education organizations and working with children. Nancy is survived by her husband, Dean; three children, David of Churchville, IA, Randy (Sheila) of Creston, and Deb of Norwalk; a brother, Steven (Nan) Brown of Brooklyn Park, MN; two first-cousins, Barbara (Steve) Brandel or Tucson, AZ and Karl (Jan) Knock of Des Moines; four grandchildren, Laura, Bryce, Michaela, and Caitlin; a niece, Amanda; and great-nephew, Wesley; a host of family and good friends; and her two hand-raised kittens, Tina and Timmy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two infant brothers; a daughter-in-law, Joan McIlravy in 2014; and a first-cousin, Joseph R. Knock.
