Obituary for Nancy M. Winn Nancy Mahady Winn, 96, died Tuesday, April 24, 2018, at her residence. Mrs. Winn was born July 30, 1921 in Radford, VA, the daughter of the late John Mahady and Lucille Mills. She was a graduate of Coker College and served during WWII in the U.S. Navy WAVES as the Disbursing Officer for the Navy Preflight Training School in Chapel Hill, NC.

She moved to Surfside Beach from Roanoke, VA in 1975 upon retirement from the Roanoke public school system where she taught ninth-grade classes for sixteen years at Breckinridge Junior High School. Mrs. Winn was for many years an active member of Surfside United Methodist Church. She was predeceased in 2004 by her husband of 61 years, Sterling W. Winn.

Survivors include her son: John S. Winn of Sharon, VT; one grandson: John C. Winn and his wife Janis of Utica, NY; one sister: Jeanette White of Roanoke; and many nephews and nieces. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 30, at Surfside United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Roanoke, VA, at the convenience of the family.
