Obituary for Mrs. Nanette E. Wilde On Wednesday, May 9, 2018 Nanette Ellen Wilde shed the cloak of dementia that had covered her for the past several years and walked into the light of heaven where we’re sure her mother and father were waiting for her with open arms. Nanette Ellen Wilde (Jones) was born in Akron, Ohio on March 12, 1928. She grew up on North Hill in Akron, attending Jackson Grade School and North Senior High School where she graduated in 1946.
Not long after graduation, she met the love of her life, Walter, and they were married on September 4, 1948. Nanette was always proud of her Welsh heritage and served two terms as National President of the Women’s Welsh Clubs of America. She passed the music in her blood and poetry of her soul on to her children, Earl and Beth.
She also passed her recipes for Welsh Cakes and Empire Biscuits on to her children and grandchildren. She was also a member of the Falls Chapter Order of Eastern Star. Nanette worked for Acme Stores as a cashier, with Noble Shoe Company in the clerical department, at WHLO radio in Akron as a secretary, and then for 30 years as the secretary of North Hill Christian Church.
She loved her church and worked in the youth ministry as well as teaching and attending women’s groups, as well as other areas of church ministry. She attended North Hill United Methodist Church for many years, Bailey Road Christian Church, and was a current member of Northminster Presbyterian Church. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the recipients of the many afghans and baby blankets she loved to knit; she also loved to cook, and canning was a special time of the year.
All the family waited at Thanksgiving to partake of her pies, and to choose from PAM (pumpkin, apple, or mince) or enjoy all three…. An avid bridge player, she rarely turned down a chance to participate in a game! Nanette was preceded in death by her mother and father, Pauline and Earl Jones; and brother, William.
She is survived by her husband of almost seventy years, Walter Wilde of Akron; her children, Elizabeth Gellner (James) of Stow, and Earl Wilde (Geri) of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. She also leaves six grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank Nanette’s caregivers at Sunrise Assisted Living Memory Care facility in Cuyahoga Falls for the wonderful and loving attention they gave to her.
Special thanks also to Harbor Light Hospice who so diligently cared for her needs during the last several weeks. Friends will be received at the Billow FALLS Chapel, 1907 23rd St., Cuyahoga Falls 44223, Wednesday, May 16, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be conducted at the funeral home Thursday, May 17, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., followed by a graveside moment at Rose Hill Burial Park in Fairlawn. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Alzheimer’s Association or to Northminster Presbyterian Church in Nanette’s memory.
