Ned Andrew “Andy” Reading, Jr., 72 of Charlotte, NC passed away Saturday, June 2, 2018 at home. Andy was born August 24, 1945 in Abilene, TX to the late Ned Andrew Reading, Sr. and Mary Jane McCallum Reading. He was preceded in death by his wife Pamela Jane Snyder Reading.

Those fortunate enough to know Andy knew that he was one of life’s rare constants—always available to offer sound advice and support. Andy was a devoted man. He valued people, and always took the time to make those around him feel heard.

He built deep personal relationships with everyone he knew, and his wisdom, gentle nature, and dependability made him a mentor to many. Spending time with Andy meant deep discussions about life and time spent listening to his stories. Andy was an eager storyteller with no shortage of anecdotes, and he spared no detail; his earnestness was captivating, and his enthusiasm and trademark laugh always cued the story’s finale.

Andy was a gifted counselor. He helped countless people struggling with alcoholism and addiction, built a community for recovery at New Beginnings and for more than 40 years, he was a living testament to sobriety. A faithful servant and believer in the Gospel, Andy was proud to serve as a Stephen Minister and as a Sunday School Fellowship teacher at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church.

Andy was a steadfast son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle whose pleasure came from the simple things in life. Among his greatest joys were his home on Lake Wylie, iced coffee, baseball cards, rescuing dogs and watching cardinals from his porch. His memory will live on in the hearts of his family members and lifelong friends.

Memorial service will be 1:00 p.m. Friday, June 8, 2018 at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Dr. Bob Jack officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the narthex.

Survivors are his daughter Ashley Tice (Brian); sister Melanie Pirollo (Armand); and granddaughter Claire Tice. Memorials may be made to The Pam and Andy Reading Memorial Scholarship Fund to support continuing education for substance abuse professionals. Gifts can be made to New Beginnings, Note: Memorial Scholarship, at 1508 Cleveland Ave.
