Nelda Jo Hyden, age 82, of Westridge Road, Carlsbad, New Mexico passed away Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Landsun Homes surrounded by her family. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM, Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at Sunset Church of Christ with Dr. James Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the new section of Carlsbad Cemetery, Carlsbad, New Mexico.

There will be no visitation. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Jo was born on April 17, 1936, in Big Spring, Texas to Plaz Bud Turner and Hazel Morren of Coahoma, Texas.

Jo was a loving and charismatic person who loved her children and grandchildren dearly and would take every chance she got to make that known. Those that knew her can attest that she had no filter and you knew exactly where your standing was with her. She was also an exceptional sales person, always knowing the perfect words to say.

She found joy in organizing holiday get togethers, cooking delicious food, solving jigsaw puzzles, girls’ bunco night, quilting, traveling to the mountains and Las Vegas, and anything Elvis Presley. Jo is a member of Sunset Church of Christ and a past active member of the Carlsbad Assistance League, Eddy County Sheriff’s Possettes, Carlsbad Medical Auxiliary, and Soup Kitchen. Over the year, Jo set the standard for toughness and resiliency, leaving a lasting legacy.

Jo will be dearly missed by her friends and family. The family would like to give special thanks to Mike Veilleux, Landsun Home, and Lakeview hospice for the love and care they provided to Jo and the support they gave to the family. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, daughter Nancy Jo Hyden Wright of Carlsbad, NM, sister Geraldine Robinson of Big Spring, TX, and sister Pauline Mason of Coahoma, TX.

Jo is survived by her children: son, Don Hyden of El Paso, TX; son, Ron Hyden of Carlsbad, NM; son, Michael Ross Hyden and wife, Peggy of Carlsbad, NM; son, Todd Hyden and wife, Robyn of Carlsbad, NM; daughter, Kimberly Click and husband, Tim of Carlsbad, NM; and son-in-law, David Wright of Carlsbad, NM. Fourteen grandchildren: Madeline Ellis Young and husband, Jack of Centennial, CO; Casey Jean Hyden of Highland Ranch, CO; Emma Rachel Hyden of Highlands Ranch, CO; Kyle Hyden of Denver, CO; Britt Hyden McVittie and husband, Drew of Albuquerque, NM; Lauren Hyden Smith and husband, Jared of Austin, TX; Natalie Hyden Buchanan and husband, Ryan of Austin, TX; Dr. Andrew Hyden and wife, Jessica of Albuquerque, NM; Cassy Hyden McGinnis and husband, Bradley of Lubbock, TX; Tyler Hyden and fiancée, Hannah Lutgen of Carlsbad, NM; Karli Click and Guye Yturralde of Carlsbad, NM; Kandi Bailey and husband, James of Carlsbad, NM; Shauna Prater and husband, Chris of Carlsbad, NM; Chris Wright of Mesa, AZ; and Tiffani Gibbs of Colorado Springs, CO. Eleven great grandchildren: Evelyn Rose Young, Harrison Smith, Finn Smith, Pierce Buchanan, Beau Bailey, Scarlett Bailey, Collin Prater, Sarryn Prater, Madison Wright, Nicholas Gibbs, and Mason Gibbs: and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be: Dr. Drew Hyden, Tyler Hyden, Jared Smith, Ryan Buchanan, Bradley McGinnis, and Guye Yterralde. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Lakeview Christian Hospice Care, 1300 N. Canal St. Carlsbad, NM. Denton-Wood Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
