Nell Dean ‘Sis’ (Peerson) McCoy July 18, 1934 – February 12, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| View Guest Book Entries| Send Sympathy Card Nell Dean ‘Sis’ (Peerson) McCoy passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Holdenville, Oklahoma at the age of 84. She was born July 18, 1934 to Otus and Cecil (Huff) Peerson north of Lamar, Oklahoma at the old Hall home place, which was the home of her grandparents, L. O. and Dollie Huff. She attended school at Lamar, Atwood, and Moss.

She married John Floyd McCoy on December 23, 1952, in Mena (Polk County) Arkansas. John preceded her in death on September 5, 2007. Nell worked hard all her life beginning on the farm (especially in the peanut and cotton crops), as a waitress at Star Café in Holdenville, as a cook at Lamar School, as a seamstress and bundle girl at Seamprufe in Holdenville, and as a Lamar News writer for the Hughes County Times.

She volunteered for many community activities and fundraisers, with her favorite being the Lamar Homecoming. She had a strong interest in community and family history, and was blessed with a keen memory and desire to preserve and assured that history lives on from generation to generation. She was an awesome cook, always welcomed everyone to her table, and made sure nobody left hungry.

She was a talented seamstress, and made most of the clothes for herself and her children. She generously shared her crocheted potholders, embroidered tea towels, and patchwork quilts with many. She enjoyed gardening and canning, and always used her special recipes by memory.

Nell is preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, John; her parents, Otus and Cecil Peerson, and step-dad Archie O’Kelly; her brother, Norval Lee ‘Sonny’ Peerson; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, James Shelton ‘Shep’ and Rosa Mae McCoy; grandparents Walter and Mae Peerson and L. O. ‘Dad’ and Dollie Huff; special aunt and uncle Leola and Garland Huff, and several other brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Nell is survived by her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren:Delane and Bob Seeley, Heather & Mark Mathews, Logan and Lexi; Brenda and Gary Reid, Rowdy and Danon Reid, Baylee and Autumn; Billy and Justeen McCoy and Keith McCoy; Ellen and Charlie Rouse, Mandy and Jeremy Crockett, Ethan and Conner; brothers Andy Peerson and Royce Peerson (Kathy); sisters-in-law Lorraine Peerson, Bonnie McCoy, Elva ‘Pete’ Manley, Stella Davis (Norman); brother-in-law Jack McCoy (Collene); and many other loving relatives and lifelong friends. Funeral services will be Saturday, February 16, 2019, 10:00 a.m. at Fisher Funeral Home’s Lillye Chapel, and Nell will be laid to rest at Lamar Cemetery.

Rev. Dane Robinson and Mr. Bill Robinson will officiate. Pallbearers will be Shawn Brock, Paul Huff, Travis Huff, Paul Camp, Chris Carpenter, and Trever Carpenter.

Honorary pallbearers will be Steve Carpenter and Charles Huff.
