Obituary of Nellie Tranka Nellie C. Tranka, partner in one of the oldest floral businesses in the Ballston area, died on Thursday June 28, 2018 in Saratoga Hospital, one week short of her 94th. Birthday. Nellie was born July 7, 1924 to Niels and Johanna Christensen and lived in Ballston Spa her entire life.

She was raised on the family farm on “Courthouse Hill” and worked as an executive secretary at GE after graduation. She married the love of her life, Joseph Tranka on October 5th 1947 and they settled on the Tranka farm on Rt. 67.

She and Joe ran the business “Joseph Tranka & Son Florist” together until his passing in 2007. Nellie and her son Kirk continued to run the greenhouses and expanded into landscaping and excavation. Nellie loved flowers of any kind and had a soft spot in her heart for animals, especially her buddy Luna.

Nellie was predeceased by her husband Joe, her parents Niels and Johanna Christensen and her four siblings. She is survived by her cherished and adored son, Kirk (Jean) Tranka of Ballston Spa; two grandchildren, Robert (Mackenzie) Jewell of Ballston Lake and Christina (Rob) Marois of Corinth and four great grandchildren. Funeral will be held on Tuesday morning at 10:00 am in the Gordon C. Emerick Funeral Home, 1550 Rt.

9 Clifton Park, NY 12065. A calling hour will be held on Tuesday from 9-10 am prior to the service in the funeral home. Interment will be in the Gerald BH Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery in Schuylerville.
