Obituary for Nelson “Boomer” E. Eckel Nelson “Boomer” E. Eckel, Resident of Harrison, Ohio, passed away on Friday, November 2, 2018 at Christ Hospital at the age of 84. Nelson was born on August 5, 1934 to Nelson Arthur and Mae (nee Taylor) Eckel. He then married Meridel Barker on January 29, 1954 and together they were blessed with Lisa, William, Mary Ellen, Nancy, Karen, and Robert.

Nelson loved being outdoors, especially if it meant he was gardening or fishing. He and Meridel owned the Harrison Pool in the 1960’s and loved spending their summers with the community. Nelson served on the Harrison Council, life squad, and was a volunteer firefighter.

He was a member at Miami Whitewater United Methodist Church and enjoyed going to church on Sundays. Nelson owned Southwest Plumbing and worked at Southwest Local School District. Nelson was an active Mason and belonged to Snow Lodge #193 in Harrison, Ohio.

Those left to carry on his legacy is his loving wife of 64 years: Meridel (nee Barker) Eckel; cherished children: Lisa Eckel, William Eckel, Mary Ellen (Tom) Watts, Nancy (Greg) Nagele, Karen (Gary) Shinkle, and Robert Eckel; beloved grandchildren: Patrick Kraus, Heather Anderson, Dan Eckel, Ellen (Paul) Kleinjohn, Cassie (Jacob) Freese, Benjamin Watts, Jeffrey (Jennifer) Watts, Karen (Nathan) Schulte, Julie and Jillian Feldkamp; his 13 great grandchildren; his brother: Roger (Virginia) Eckel; and dear friend: Marilyn Brewer. Nelson is preceded in death by his parents: Nelson Arthur and Mae (nee Taylor) Eckel; grandson: Jonathon Eckel; and brothers: Clyde and Donald Eckel. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018 at Brater- Winter Funeral Home, 201 S. Vine St., Harrison, Ohio 45030 from 6:00 PM until time of Masonic Service at 8:00 PM.

Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the funeral home. Burial to follow at Miamitown Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Cincinnati Children’s Hospital (Complex Care Unit) or Miami Whitewater UMC.
