Obituary for Nicholas R. Genova GIRARD – Nicholas R. “Nick” Genova, 70, passed away Saturday July 7, 2018 at the Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, surrounded by his family. He was born in New Castle, Pennsylvania on June 30, 1948 the son of Raymond and Rose (Chiaro) Genova. Nick graduated in 1966 from Mohawk High School in Bessemer, Pennsylvania, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and the varsity baseball team.

He earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in English and his Master’s degree in Education from Youngstown State University, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon Fraternity. He was a passionate and dedicated English teacher for 36 year, retiring in 2007 from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio. At different times during his career, Nick coached boys’ and girls’ tennis, girls’ softball, boys’ JV baseball and girls’ volleyball.

He also was a ski club advisor and school newspaper advisor. He served as Faculty Manager for many years in the Athletic Ticket Office until his retirement. He was a member of Our Lady of Mt.

Carmel Parish, Niles and The Fish and Game Club of Vienna. Nick was a modest man known for his vitality and friendly manner. He will be deeply missed by his loving and devoted wife, the former Carol O’Neill whom he married on June 30, 1972; their sons, Michael Genova of Vienna, Scott (Angela) Genova of Champion; three grandsons, Colin, Ryan, Mason Genova, who affectionately called him “Papa”.

He also leaves his sister, Loretta Bober of Mt. Jackson, Pennsylvania; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Florence and Curtis Teeter of Canfield, who were like second parents to him; brother-in-law, Richard (Linda) O’Neill; sisters-in-law, Janice (James) Graygo and JoAnn (Bill) Tumpak. He also leaves many nieces and nephews among other extended family.

Nick was preceded in death by his parents; father-in-law, Harold “Dick” O’Neill and brother-in-law, Paul Bober. His wife, Carol wishes to thank all family and friends who enriched his life. Calling Hours will be Tuesday, July 10, 2018 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles where the Mt.

Carmel Bereavement Ministry will have a 6:30 p.m. prayer service. The Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, July 11, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Church preceded by a 9:30 prayer service at the funeral home.

Rev. John-Michael Lavelle will be the celebrant. Burial will be in Girard City Cemetery.
