Norma R. Bennett, 95, of Traverse City and a former Jackson resident, passed away Sun. , March 3, 2019 at Munson Hospice House. Norma was born in Ft.

Morgan, Colorado on June 30, 1923 to Allan and Sylvia (Pace) Bennett. She was a graduate of the University of Colorado, and earned a Masters Degree in Library Science at the University of Michigan. On September 16, 1950 she married Donald E. Bennett in Jackson, Michigan and enjoyed a blessed 59 years of marriage.

Norma worked as a professional librarian at the Jackson Public Library for many years, even driving the big Bookmobile. While in Jackson, Don and Norma were members of the First Presbyterian Church. She was active with the League of Women Voters, authoring a paper and study on mental health services in Michigan.

She was also very involved and supportive in the Cub and Boy Scouts along with her and Don’s three boys. Norma enjoyed the family cottage and beach in Omena, traveling with Don, and her flower gardens, especially on the terraces at the Thorn Creek Condos in Traverse City where they lived for many years. Don and Norma had many great times with their wonderful Pinochle Club friends.

Don and Norma moved to Traverse City in 1994 following their retirement to be close to their sons and their families. They were members of the First Congregational Church, where they also enjoyed the Fun-timers senior group. Most of all, Norma loved spending time with her family.

Norma was much beloved by her family and friends as a positive, intelligent, and loving person all her days. Norma is survived by her sons, James A. (Joli) Bennett and Bruce E. (Sharon) Bennett, all from Traverse City, Charles E. Bennett of California; her grandchildren, Jordan, Danielle, Megan, and Matthew Bennett, Erika (Pat) Bramer and 6 great grandchildren. Norma was preceded in death by her parents, a brother William (Bill) and her beloved Don.

Memorial services will be held with doors open for visiting at 10am and the service at 11am, on Saturday, March 9 in the Towne Chapel of First Congregational Church, 6105 Center Rd, Traverse City. The Rev. Dr. Gary Hogue will officiate.

In addition, there will be a Celebration of Life for Norma this summer at the family cottage in Omena.
