Obituary for Odette A. Duran GRAFTON/SHREWSBURY: Odette A. Duran, 66, passed away at home June 18, 2018 surrounded by her family after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Odette leaves her four children, Maria Odette Duran of Shrewsbury, Julia Tomaiolo and husband Michael of Shrewsbury, Natalie Maigarie and husband Andrew of Millbury and Ricky Duran of Shrewsbury; her three beloved grandchildren, Michael, Colton and Christian; her sister Dunia Tobar de Leal of Guatemala; her brother Angel Tobar of Guatemala; and countless nieces and nephews, family and friends whom she adored. She is predeaced by her beloved husband, Ricardo; and her brothers, Estuardo and Mario Tobar.
Odette was born in Guatemala City on May 3, 1952. She met the love of her life as a teenager and at the age of twenty-one, moved to the United States together to build a life and family. They made their beautiful home in Grafton, MA where she and Ricardo raised their four children.
Odette’s passion was her family and she decided to run a daycare out of her home in order to be home with her children. This ended up being one of her most gratifying experiences as she was able to become a “second mother” to numerous children whom she adored and remained close with into their adulthood. After about 15 years of taking care of children, Odette began a successful career in the financial industry at Fidelity and later BYN Melon Bank, where she made lasting friendships that she cherished.
In most recent years, Odette devoted herself to her young grandchildren who were the joys of her life. Odette will be greatly missed but her love and gracious spirit will live on forever. As Odette was going through treatment she expressed her gratitude for getting this disease so late in life and sadness for those who had to endure it so early.
Therefore, in lieu of flowers her family requests memorial donations be made to www. jimmyfund.org/gift. All are welcome to gather with Odette’s family Sunday June 24th from 2pm to 5pm at Roney Funeral Home 152 Worcester St. N. Grafton, MA 01536.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated for Odette Monday June 25th at 11:00am at St. Philip’s Church 12 West St. Grafton, MA 01519. All attending the Mass are politely requested to go directly to church. She will then be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery in Grafton.
