Obituary for Mrs. Ollie Thierry Stephens OBITUARY One we loved and knew stepped across the threshold that we call death, but it was only a step into another room and not a stepping out of the fellowship of life. Ollie Rea Thierry Stephens was born May 24, 1927 to the late Clarence Thierry Sr. and Mattie Pitre Thierry in Opelousas (Plaisance), LA. She entered eternal rest on June 12, 2018.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Living Water Christian Center in Opelousas, LA. Visiting hours will be observed from 9:30 AM to 10:45 AM Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Living Water Christian Center. Interment will be in Thierry Cemetery in the community of Plaisance.

Ollie Rea accepted Christ and was baptized in Mohorn Baptist Church by the late Rev. S. A. Crowder. She later became a member of St. Mark Baptist Church under the pastorship of the late Rev.

Atkins Leday Sr. At her death, Ollie Rea was a member of Living Waters Christian Center under the pastorship of Rev. Nathaniel Thierry where she served as a Deaconess and was a dedicated worker. Ollie Rea received her early education from Plaisance Elementary School and was a graduate of St. Landry Training School.

She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Leland College and her Masters of Education degree from Texas Southern University. Ollie Rea left a profound impact upon the lives of many boys and girls as an educator in St. Landry Parish for 35 years and in Acadia Parish for 11 years. Working with children was Ollie Rea’s pride and joy.

Bestowed with many honors and awards from organizations on both the local and state levels, her affiliations included: National Retired Education Association; Louisiana Retired Education Association; Golden Star Chapter #26 OES; ELKS St. Benedict Temple #1013; Elizabeth Brooks Comeaux Council; NAACP; National Association of University Women. Ollie Rea was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mattie Pitre Thierry, brothers, Frank Thierry, Clenny Thierry, Overton Thierry, Clarence Thierry Jr. and sister, Elmenia Thierry. She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted family: daughter, Sandra Rubin (Samuel) of Spring, TX; granddaughter, Angela Rubin of Tucson, AZ; brother, Rev.

Nathaniel Thierry (Eliza) of Plaisance, LA; sisters, Minerva Simpson of San Francisco, CA, Dr. Myrtle Thierry-Palmer (Colin) of Atlanta, GA and Josie Darjean of Houston, TX; sisters-in-law, Annie Thierry of San Francisco, CA and Irene Thierry of New Orleans, LA; nieces, nephews and a host of relatives and friends.
