Otis’ Obituary Otis Clyde Lynn 1927-2019 Clyde Lynn, of Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina passed away peacefully in his 92nd year, January 28th, 2019. Interment will be scheduled at Arlington National Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at the Morehead City church of Christ on Sunday, February 10th, at 2:00 PM.

In lieu of flowers, donations are requested to the Wounded Warrior Project. * Link below Clyde was born in Jackson County, TN, in a “holler” near Flynn’s Lick, off of the Cumberland River, the youngest son of Dillard Asbury Lynn & Jennie Sue Pruett on Valentines’ Day, February 14th, 1927. Clyde’s’ early years were spent in rural TN, & Nashville.

Jackson Co. was special to him as it was home to WWI hero Sergeant York. His father had instilled in Clyde a deep love for God and a thirst for learning. Clyde was active in sports and learned to love books.

He attended East Nashville High School, where he met his cheerleader & sweetheart, Jacque Gilbert. They married on St. Patricks’ Day in 1946 as Clyde was being deployed to Germany. Clyde had a successful Army career that began as a soldier and concluded as Major General.

As an infantry officer, serving 38 years, he defended our country and was in frontline combat in Korea and wounded in Vietnam. His duty continued through undisclosed engagements during the “cold war”, as an officer in several Special Forces units. He participated in over 100 parachute jumps and was decorated for his valor in several direct engagements.

In Korea he was given a field commission to Company commander. In Vietnam he was a Battalion commander. In Hawaii he was a Division commander.

Clyde served as Chief of Staff, US Forces Asia & Europe as a Major General before retiring in 1983. The union of Jacque and Clyde produced a strong, loving bond of 67 years. Jacque preceded him in death in 2013.

Clyde is also preceded in death by his parents & siblings. Descendants of his brother Troy Lynn and sister Grace Jones, reside in TN, KY and GA. He is survived by his two sons, Clyde Gilbert Lynn and wife Melanie of Grifton, NC and Gary Jackson Lynn and wife Alma of Virginia Beach, VA.

There are five Grandchildren; Gilbert Keegan Lynn (Cassie), Meredith Marie Perry (Stephen Lynn), Margaux Lee Watson (Wayne) all of Wilmington, NC. Tyler Donovan Lynn (Charlotte) of Virginia Beach, VA. , Samantha Jacque Cellon (Daniel) of Nashville, TN.

Finally, there are seven Great Grandchildren; Ella Marie Perry, Ridge Wayne Watson, Jacquelynn Tess Watson, Viviann Jett Watson, Sydney Zaira Lynn, Mariana Jane Lynn, and Joseph Ryker Lynn. Retired, Clyde served many roles as a volunteer in: government, as a Rotarian, and faithful brother at the Morehead City church of Christ congregation. He often emphasized that the Lord had always taken care of him.

In all his endeavors, Clyde could be described as a soldier and a saint, with his sense of duty and desire to support those around him. He looked for the positives in everyone and encouraged them with his dimpled smile. In his last years at Pine Knoll Shores, he provided a home for Patti Swetz his friend and helpful companion.

Clyde loved the Army but insisted that his happiest times were in PKS being host to his five grandchildren. Called “Camp Jacque”, Clyde would spend time at the beach, on trails, building forts, playing together at Jungle Land, watching classic movies, and eating very well during the children’s visits. Clyde, Otis, Sir, OC, General, or Granddaddy, whatever you called him, he was a special man.

The Lord has called His soldier home. Clyde is in the Lord’s army now! fundraise.
