Obituary for Otis N. Croy Otis N. Croy died on May 29, 2018, at his home in Yuba City, at the age of 93. Otis was born October 28, 1924, on Indian territory in OK, and grew up in Kellyville, OK. He served in WW2 on the flight crew of a B24 Liberator bomber.

After the war he came to Northern California and married Helen Upshaw on November 22, 1949. For several years he worked in rice farming in Richvale. After graduating from Chico State University with degrees in industrial arts, he began a teaching career that spanned four decades and included Alicia Intermediate School, Yuba Gardens School, Marysville High School, and the Regional Occupation Program.

In addition to public school teaching, he was an almond grower from the mid-60’s through the 1980’s. Otis was proud to be part Cherokee and was active in the Cherokees of California, serving for a few years as the Chief of that organization. He will be deeply missed and affectionately remembered by family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Helen of Yuba City; sons, Howard of Brookings, OR (wife, Kalani Baker), and Clayton of Yuba City (wife, Marty Croy); five grandchildren, Howie, Shiloh, Heather, Sarah, and Celeste; and five great-grandchildren, Jessica, Sophia, India Rose, Georgiana, and Izaiah. He is preceded in death by two brothers, three sisters, and one daughter (Naomi Florence). A memorial service will be held on Friday, June 29th, 2018, 11:00 am, at Yuba City First United Methodist Church, 3101 Colusa Highway.
