Obituary for PASTOR SAMMIE LEE DAVIS SR. Pastor Sammie Lee Davis, born November 27, 1927; 7 minutes after 7 and the 7th child of Mr. and Mrs. George and Georgia Davis in Kosse (Limestone County), Texas. Pastor Sammie Davis is the father of eleven children, with three son’s Pastoring: Rev.
Mark C. Davis, St. Luke Missionary Baptist Church, Houston, Texas; the late Rev. John Alman Davis, Star of Bethlehem Baptist Church, Dallas, Texas and Rev. Danny Davis, Jordan Grove Missionary Baptist Church, Houston, Texas.
Pastor Davis received his formal education in the Dallas Public Schools, graduating from Lincoln High School; he later academically matriculated his theological studies from Bishop College (Marshall, Texas), University of Los Angeles (Los Angeles, California), Southern Methodist University – Perkins School of Theology (Dallas, Texas), he also received foreign theological studies from Hebrew University (Jerusalem, Israel), University of Rome (Rome, Italy), and Aswan University (Aswan, Egypt). And on April 28, 2013, he received his Doctor of Divinity Degree from Saint Thomas Christian College and Theological Seminary (Jacksonville, Florida). Pastor Davis is the organizing pastor of Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church for over 51 years.
Through his church he organized the “War On Drug Program” which was the only Negro licensed hospital by the State of Texas for those who had a drug problem which helped over 1,000’s of people redirect their lives from drugs and crime to Christ. Later the Fellowship, Inc. formed the first Rehabilitation Drug Choir in the United States. In 2013, Pastor Sammie Lee Davis retired from Active Pastoring but never from preaching the Gospel!
He can be often quoted saying, “Preaching is a called INTO…and a dying OUT OF! ” “Sooner than at Once and Quicker than Right Now,” on Monday, June 18, 2018, at 10:20 am, The Angel of Silence welcomed him with open arms from Labor to Reward.
