Obituary for Patsy Calkins (Smith) Patsy Calkins of Emory, Texas passed away February 1, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 14, 1934 in Fort Worth, Texas to Roy LaFaver and Thyra (Smith) LaFaver. Patsy’s focus in life was education, she worked tirelessly to earn her PhD.

She authored college level text books, taught at Irving High School, presided as President of Brookhaven Junior College in the 1990s, and later served as Chancellor of Oakland County Community College in the Detroit, Michigan area. Patsy was a small-town girl who achieved much in life. She will be remembered for her strong Christian values and her commitment and care for her students.

While attending the State Fair of Texas at the age of three, she came home with the blue ribbon for telling the story of baby Moses. She is preceded in death by her parents, brothers Jay and Roy Donal LaFaver and husband of 20 years Richard Calkins. Patsy leaves behind to cherish her memory, beloved son Paul Foust and wife Lou Ann of Emory, Texas; grandson Jared Foust of Irving, Texas, brother Jack LaFaver of Amarillo, Texas and many other family and friends.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Tuesday, February 5, 2019, at Brown’s Memorial Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Laurel Land Cemetery, 7100 Crowley Road, Fort Worth, Texas.
