Obituary for Paul E. Nonte Dateline Jasper, IN Paul E. Nonte, age 91 of Jasper, Indiana, passed away at 10:55 p.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 at his home. Paul was born in Dubois, Indiana on December 9, 1926 to John and Elizabeth (Dekemper) Nonte. He married Joan M. Schaefer on June 2, 1956 in Washington, Indiana.

She preceded him in death on May 25, 1994. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran who served during WWII (1944-1946). He was a member of the VFW Post #673 and the American Legion Post #147.

After service he graduated in 1949 from Indiana University. Paul was a Certified Public Accountant and the owner of Nonte and Company CPA’s in Jasper, which he started in 1960. He became a member of the Indiana CPA society in 1956.

He was part owner of Southgate Shopping Center and owned the GNC Health Store in Jasper. He served as a member of the Jasper School Board in the late 60’s. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper and their choir, He was also a member of the Jasper Knights of Columbus and the Jasper Moose Lodge 1175.

He was an avid golfer, winning the Jasper Country Club Championship in 1964, and was runner up in 1962 and 1963. He was the Dubois County Amateur Senior Division Champion in 1985. Paul took up running soon after his 60th birthday, running his first full marathon a week before his 70th birthday, eventually completing three marathons and many half marathons and 5k races.

He was a fan of IU sports, enjoyed playing cards, bowled in the Knights of Columbus bowling league, enjoyed growing sweet corn and tomatoes in his garden and was considered an expert chili maker. He was always interested in self improvement and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Surviving is one son, Bill Nonte of Indianapolis, three daughters, Cathy Walden (Steve), Oswego, IL, Beth Russell (Randy), McLean, VA, and Barbie Nonte of Aurora, IL.

twelve grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and one sister-in-law, Edna Nonte of Jasper. Preceding him in death besides his wife was one daughter, Patrice Nonte, one son, Paul S. Nonte, one sister Helen Stevens, three brothers, Bill (who died in the Normandy invasion in WWII), Victor Nonte, and Albert Nonte who died in infancy. A Mass of Christian Burial for Paul E. Nonte will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2018 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Jasper, with burial to follow in Fairview Cemetery in Jasper.

The VFW Post #673 will conduct military gravesite rites. A visitation will be held from 3:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, May 31, 2018 at the Becher-Kluesner Downtown Chapel in Jasper. The Jasper Moose Lodge 1175 will conduct a memorial service at 6:00 p.m. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, the Dubois County Humane Society, or to a favorite charity.
