Paul Grundstrom, 92, of 42 Sparkle Lane, Green Mountain, NC, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, April 26, 2019, at Smoky Ridge Health and Rehabilitation. Born March 18, 1927 in Jamestown, NY, to the late Alfred and Lillian Grundstrom, he was the youngest of four children. A graduate of Jamestown High School, he was a World War II US Navy Veteran.

After his naval service, he attended a technical school in Chicago. His trade was heating and air conditioning. He moved to Clearwater, Florida, where he practiced his trade and then taught heating and air conditioning, retiring from the Pinellas Park Public School System in 1990.

After retiring, he moved to Green Mountain, where he purchased a farm and lived there until his death. He was widowed in 1998 and married Shirley Sue Smith in 1999. Surviving, in addition to his wife, is a step daughter: Elizabeth Daniels of Bakersville; and a sister: Jeanette Faulk of Jamestown, NY.

He was preceded in death by an adopted son: Richard Kim Grundstrom; and two step sons: Kevin Fordyce and Eric Smith. Paul loved flying and earned his small aircraft pilots license. He had been a Boy Scout Leader in Florida.

He was an artist in design, woodworking and pencil drawing. He enjoyed light carpentry. After his marriage to Sue, they developed a Puppets and Song Ministry.

Paul was a member of the Board of Deacons at The Bridge Church of WNC in Spruce Pine and was appointed an Elder. He was active in volunteerism; volunteering at the Church Food Pantry; the ‘Senior Salt Group’ at TBC; Blue Ridge Regional Hospital and JAARS in Waxhaw, NC, which is part of Wycliffe Bible Translators. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:30 AM, Saturday, June 1, 2019 at The Bridge Church of WNC.

Pastor Tom Anglin will officiate. To honor Paul’s life, love of children, and the “seeds of God’s Word” he faithfully planted, a scholarship has been created in his memory. Those wishing to “sow into this ministry” may send tax deductible donations to Tri-County Christian School, 207 Pinebridge Avenue, Spruce Pine, NC 28777 (Scholarship Fund – Mr. Paul Grundstrom).
