Paul’s Obituary Paul W. “Ralph” Shaffer, 92, of Latrobe, passed away Wednesday, May 29, 2019 at Barnes Place, Latrobe. Born February 25, 1927 in Latrobe, he was a son of the late Paul V. Shaffer and Hazel (Ober) Shaffer. Paul was a member of Sacred Heart Church, Youngstown.

Prior to his retirement, he had been employed as a truck driver for Teledyne Vasco with 42 years of service and had also worked for the former Graham & Byers Service Station. A veteran of WWII, he served in the U.S. Navy and was a member of the American Legion Post No. 515, Latrobe.

He was a life member and past president of the Youngstown Volunteer Fire Department Social Club. One of his favorite pastimes was gardening. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Helen Fox, and two brothers, Frank and Howard Shaffer.

Paul is survived by his wife, Mary C. (Stumpf) Shaffer, of Latrobe; three sons, Paul W. Shaffer, Jr., and his wife Nancy, of Orlando, FL, Bruce A. Shaffer of Daytona Beach, FL, and Keith E. Shaffer, and his wife Wendy, of Latrobe; two daughters, Sandra L. Mickinak, and her husband Todd, of Latrobe, and Lisa M. Shaffer, and her fiancé Len Shepler, of Latrobe; he is also survived by six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Family and friends will be received from 2 to 6 PM Friday at the John J. Lopatich Funeral Home, Inc., 601 Weldon Street, Latrobe. Military services will be conducted at 9 AM Saturday in the funeral home by the Latrobe-Derry Veterans Honor Guard.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 AM Saturday at St. Cecilia Church, Whitney, with the Rev. James Podlesny, O.S.B. as celebrant. Interment will follow at Unity Cemetery.
