Paula M. Gonzalez, 91, passed away at 11:25pm Sunday, July 22, 2018 in Hospice House. Paula was born on April 2, 1927 in Bryan, TX to Francisco and Josephina (Lopez) Martinez. She retired from the University of Notre Dame where she was employed for 36 years.

Paula was the founder of Council 5001 of Lulac, co-founder of Sociedad Guadalupana, and was a volunteer with hospice. On May 2, 1953 in South Bend she married Rafael Gonzalez. He preceded her in death along with 3 brothers Francisco Martinez, Fernando Martinez and Ricardo Martinez.

Surviving are a daughter Mary Ellen (Felipe) Tijerina of South Bend, 3 sons Benjamin (Eva) Gonzalez of Walkerton, Edward (Margarita) Gonzalez Sr of South Bend and Richard (Elida) Gonzalez of Cleveland, OH, 20 grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, 9 great-great-grandchildren, 3 sisters Connie Rodriguez, Frances Sandoval and Lupe Castro and a brother Amparo Martinez. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12:00pm Monday, July 30, 2018 in St. Casimir Church. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery.

Family and friends may gather from 10-11:30am Monday in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 Kemble Avenue. Memorial contributions may be made to the Center for Hospice Care, St. Casimir Church, or Alzheimer / Dementia Services. To leave an online condolence, please visit our website at www.
