OBITUARY Pearson Emmanuel Dubar Jr. January 28, 1950 – July 16, 2018 In lieu of flowers please consider making a memorial contribution in Pearson Dubar’s honor to the following organization listed below. Pearson Emmanuel Dubar, Jr. 68, formerly of Overland Park, KS passed away on July 16, 2018. Pearson was born January 28, 1950 to Pearson Emmanuel Dubar, Sr. and Madie Dubar (Kearney) of Shallotte, North Carolina.
He graduated Salutatorian of his class and was a Presidential Scholar from Shallotte High School in 1967. Pearson had many discussions with his father about his career path. He decided as a young boy he would pursue a career as a doctor, lawyer, or minister.
He received his Bachelor of Arts Degree in Political Science from Duke University in 1971 and his Juris Doctorate from Antioch School of Law in 1978. Upon graduating from college, a professor at Duke University, advised him to consider Officer Candidate School (OCS). He applied and was accepted to Officer Candidate School (United States Navy) in Newport, Rhode Island.
He was Commissioned a Naval Officer in 1972. During his 30 years of service, his career was distinguished by excellence in leadership, management and a deep commitment to the Naval Reserve Security Group and cryptologic community. He served with devotion and honor in a number of cryptologic assignments in Virginia, District of Columbia, Maryland, Kansas and Illinois.
He received the Meritorious Service Award for exceptional meritorious service and outstanding performance. Throughout his career, he was recognized for contributing essential leadership and oversaw the successful execution of many cryptologic missions critical to national security. He retired as a Captain from the United States Navy on October 1, 2002.
In addition to his military career, during his tenure as a law student at Antioch School of Law, he was selected and interned at the Supreme Court of the United States. Pearson was employed at the Department of Agriculture in Washington, DC for many years. He relocated with his family from Virginia to Overland Park, KS in 1996 as the Acting Director, Equal Employment Counselor/Mediator.
He retired from the Federal Government and transitioned to private practice in Overland Park, KS in 1998 and spent the next 20 years as an Employment Attorney and Mediator. He retired from private practice in July 2018 due to failing health. From childhood and throughout his life, his faith was central and a daily reminder of the importance of God in his life.
His Catholic faith gave him peace and direction during his adult life. He was a huge advocate for those in need. He would often say to his children, “To whom much is given, much is expected”.
Pearson utilized his skills as an Attorney and his belief in justice to be a voice for those who were unable to advocate for themselves. He often spoke about his love for his family and that his children made him extremely proud. On Thanksgiving Day, he met his future wife, Linda F. Grainger.
They were married 43 years and from that union they were blessed with three children: Ebonie Mbeteni (Fortunatus), Lakisha Dubar- Wehner (Eustace), Justin Kearney Dubar (Amanda), four grandchildren: Henry Martin Mbeteni, Corrina Isabelle Mbeteni, Camille Elizabeth Mbeteni, and Ethan Michael Dubar. He also leaves one sister, Myra Dubar- Swanson of Easton, PA. , two special cousins whom Pearson referred to as his brothers, Janney Dorsey and Tony Dorsey of Woodbridge, VA.
, two nieces, extended family and loving friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Pearson and Madie Dubar (Kearney), grandparents Percy and Corrina Kearney and Silas and Bedie Dubar.
