Peggy S. Tilden, 71, of LaPorte, passed away peacefully surrounded by family Sunday, December 9, 2018 at the Franciscan Health Center, Michigan City. She was born March 10, 1947, in LaPorte, to Jay and Isabelle (Malm) Ellis. Peggy was quite the individual.

She kept very busy being a member of the Red Hat Society. Peggy was an avid camper, bingo player and liked to go roller skating. She collected frog novelties and enjoyed the delicacy of frog legs.

She was very talented when… Read More » it came to music. Peggy could play the saxophone, organ, piano, and many other instruments. She sang in the First Presbyterian Church Messiah for 20 years.

Peggy also volunteered to teach music at the Springfield Township Elementary School and helped troubled teenagers in her years in the community. She had so much love to give to her family, friends, and animals, especially little dogs. Peggy was known for her willingness to help everyone and will forever be missed.

On August 31, 1968, in Michigan City, she married Herbert Tilden, who survives. Surviving are her husband of 50 wonderful years, Herbert Tilden of LaPorte; children, Diana (Jeff) Lingenfelter, Kelly (Mark) Hutson, Genny (Larry) Powell all of La Porte, and Cheri (John) Tracy, of Mill Creek; one sister, Nancy (John) Kemeny of Utah: three brothers, John (Dorothy) Ellis of Peoria, IL, Richard (Erna) Ellis of LaPorte, Jerry (Barbara) Ellis, of Arkansas; 12 grandchildren; and five great grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Jay and Isabelle Ellis; one brother, Tom Ellis; and one grandchild, Nicole Lynn Powell.

A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 5 p.m., Thursday, December 13, 2018 at Lakeview Funeral Home and Crematory, 247 W. Johnson Rd. , La Porte (219) 362-3100 with Pastor Terry McKinney officiating. Visitation and viewing will be held from 2 p.m. until time of service at the funeral home.
