OBITUARY Peggy Sims Morgan January 1, 1925 – September 16, 2018 Peggy Sims Morgan was born in Waxahachie, TX to Clara and Richard Sims on January 1, 1925. She passed away quietly on September 16, 2018. She was the middle of three children.

She had an older sister, Hazel, and younger brother Dick. They moved around quite a bit during her younger years, but they eventually moved to Dallas where she graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School where she met the love of her life, Dan A. Morgan, Jr They eloped on July 17, 1945 while he was on leave from the Army during WWII.

When the war ended, in which he had earned The Silver Star for heroism, they started their life together. They had two children, Dan Morgan, III and Margaret. She spent much of her time at her church, St. Bernard’s.

While her children attended the school there, she was the secretary for the school. After her children had gone, she took on the job at St. Anthony’s Catholic School. On weekends, the family would load up the car and head to the lake immediately when Dan got off work.

They went to many lakes around the area and camped out with their friends and family. Peggy had many talents. She played bridge in different bridge clubs, and she and her husband played with friends.

She loved crossword puzzles and she and her sister played Scrabble almost every day. Her sister lived behind her and they were very close. She also sewed beautifully, sewing all of her daughter’s clothes.

She also knitted, crocheted, and did needlepoint and cross stich. In later years, she added weaving to her repertoire when her parents lived with them. Peggy was also a plant-lover, and had an extraordinary green thumb.

She once even taught a class at the community college. She was a wonderful mother-in-law for Gayle, Dan’s wife. They talked together easily and were good friends.

She was also a marvelous grandmother to her grandchildren, Michelle, Kelly and Cheyenne. They loved going to visit her and spending time with her at the lake house at Cedar Creek. She made many beautiful things for them to wear.

In later years she took up writing. She wrote a book on war stories as told by the Men of the 738th Field Artillery Battalion, of which her husband was a member. It included all kinds of memorabilia, letters, and the men’s personal accounts of their time in the war.

This took a lot of research and time. She did this all online with another woman that lived in Washington, DC, and it took two years of constant work. They did not meet until the book was published.

She also wrote another book for her children and grandchildren that included the letters that she and her husband had written to each other during the war. She could make the Apple computer do backflips! Her husband died in 2007 and she missed him terribly.

They were truly a match made in Heaven. She will be missed by her family… son, Dan Morgan, III (Gayle) and daughter, Margaret Trammell; grandchildren, Michelle Preston, Kelly Paradise, and Cheyenne Cartwright; great-grandchildren, Joe, Eli and Rae Paradise, and Cole Preston. A visitation will be on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 at Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home from 5:30-7:30pm (10501 Garland Rd, Dallas, TX 75218).

A graveside service will be held at Dallas – Fort Worth National Cemetery on Thursday, September 20, 2018 at 2:00pm. The family requests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association or charity of your choice.
