Struthers – Peter Hladun, 89, died early Friday morning, December 14, 2018 at Hospice of the Valley’s Hospice House. Peter was born July 22, 1929 in Youngstown, a son of John and Julia (Sekela) Hladun. Raised in Youngstown, Peter attended East High School.

He began his career in delivery for Schwebel’s bakery before taking a position with McKay Machine as a fabrication assembler. McKay Machine later became Wean United and he retired from the company in 1991. Mr. Hladun was a proud veteran, serving in the United States Army from 1946 until his honorable discharge in 1948 with the rank of Private First Class.

He was a longtime member of St. George Byzantine Catholic Church, where he served as an usher. Pete and his wife Margie enjoyed many years of wintering in Naples, Florida, where they enjoyed going to the beach, out to dinner, and garage sales. His wife, the former Margaret E. Polya, whom he married May 9, 1951, preceded him in death on September 20, 2010.

He is survived by his sons, John (Kimberly) Hladun of Berlin Center and Ronald (Judy) Hladun of Mountain Home, AR; five grandchildren, Joseph Hladun, Melissa Hladun, Cole Hladun, Craig (Mary) Hladun, Cody Hladun; and brother, John (Libby) Chaban of Poland Twp. In addition to his parents and wife, Peter was preceded in death by five sisters, Ann Midlick, Helen Manhollan, Ann Camen, Mary Mitchell, and Ginny Hladun; and five brothers, George Hladun, John Ladun, Andy Murzda, Michael Hladun, and infant Billy Hladun. Family and friends will be received on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, 270 N. Main St., Poland, where a Panachida service will be held on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. A Funeral of Divine Liturgy will be held on Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. George Byzantine Catholic Church, 1726 Canfield Rd.

, Youngstown. Interment will follow in the Poland Riverside Cemetery. Memorial tributes may take the form of contributions in Mr. Hladun’s name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, Ohio 44512.
