Obituary for Peter Joseph Wiellette Peter J. Wiellette, July 22, 1921 – November 3, 2018 of Hartford Connecticut died peacefully on Saturday with his daughters by his side. Dad was a strong man who was active and healthy throughout his 97 years. Until his last day, he lived independently in the home where he and his wife, Barbara Q. Wiellette (deceased September 23, 1998) raised their two daughters, Julia M. Wiellette of West Hartford and Linda W. Cote of Avon.

He was lovingly tended to in his later years by Julia’s wife, Cherie A. Bochenko. Dad will be missed at family gatherings, especially by our equally spry Uncle Henry Borawski. Dad was predeceased by his three siblings but always loved his times at Wyassup Lake with his nephews, Richie, Jerry, and John Peter Wiellette.

Peter was a devoted family man, and could always be found “puttering in the cellar” or tending to his amazing vegetable garden where he grew the most delicious tomatoes. He was a humble man who served the Navy in World War II, trained at MIT and stationed in Tongue Point, Oregon as an Aviation Electronic Technician, teaching the new RADAR technology to fighter pilots. He worked as a Tool & Die Maker for 35 years at Royal Typewriter in Hartford until they closed, then moved on to MH Rhodes in Avon.

He retired twice, the last time at age 76. He took care of his grandchildren, Kelsie, Josh, and Hannah, well into his 80s, and could be found on a step ladder trimming the hedges even after the age of 90. After he became a widower, we really got to know his tender heart.

Because Dad believed that flowers belonged growing in the dirt, in lieu of bouquets, he would prefer donations to the Metacomet Trail, which he maintained and hiked all his life, through the Connecticut Forest and Park Association. www. ctwoodlands.org/giving Burial will be private because Dad was a private man.

Your presence would be welcome at a Memorial Mass to be held at St Mark the Evangelist Church at 467 South Quaker Lane in West Hartford at 10 am on Saturday, November 10, 2018 followed by a gathering at the home of Julia & Cherie. Taylor & Modeen Funeral Home, West Hartford has care of arrangements. For online condolences please visit www.
