A family gathering was held on June 15, 2018 at Elmwood Cemetery to share in the life and passing of Phil Gene Martin. Phil passed from this life in Edmond on Friday, June 8. He was surrounded by his sons Trevor Martin Hullett and Ransom Martin and other family and friends.

Phil was born on October 23, 1954 in Amarillo, Texas to Charles and Mary Lou Robinson Martin. He grew up in Woodward and graduated with the class of 1972. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church.

Phil… Read More » learned to be a construction framer from his step-dad Dale Scott and helped build houses in Woodward and in Edmond for Austin Construction. Phil took over the business in Edmond after Dale’s passing in 1988. His most enjoyment in life was his sons Trevor and Ransom and his family of four brothers and two sisters.

His special activities included his love for music, OU football, Thunder basketball and fixing dinner for his sons. He was an excellent cook by his sons’ standards. Phil was a responsible boss and took care of the men who worked for him.

He made friends wherever he went. “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you took me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me. ” Matthew 25:35-36.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents and Gaylene Linzemen. Phil is survived by his sons, Brenda Hulett of Edmond, his brothers Roger Martin of Clinton, Steve and wife Dian, Jon, and Rodney, of Woodward, sisters Karen Bell and husband Ray of Woodward and Kathy Smitherman and husband Bob of Sublette, Kansas and many nieces and nephews. Memorials may be made to : First United Methodist Church Benevolence Fund, Woodward or a charity of your choice.
