Philip E. “Butch” Bender, 69, of North Ridgeville passed away on Tuesday February 19, 2019 at O’Neill Healthcare in Bay Village. He was born on January 25, 1950 at Bay View Hospital in Bay Village. Phil grew up in Westlake and while growing up, he worked in his parent’s beverage store, “Benders Beverage”.

He graduated from Westlake High School in 1969 and he married his high school sweetheart, Laurel Tabar, on February 20, 1972. Phil was a veteran of the US Army and served from 1971 to 1978. He was retired from LK Heating and Cooling in North Olmsted.

He enjoyed his granddaughters tremendously, teaching them about his enjoyment of many different kinds of music and instruments. While in High School, Phil enjoyed playing the guitar in a band. Phil is survived by; his wife, Laurel (nee Tabar); four children, Jennifer (John Paul), Mathew (Laura), Kimberly (James), and Michelle (Adam); six granddaughters, Jolie, Grace, Madison, Makinley, Olivia, and Anna; his sister, Carol (Wayne); and by his brother, Jim (Barb).

He was preceded in death by; his parents, Charles and Mildred; his brother, Skip; and by his sister, Judy. The family will welcome friends on Friday February 22, 2019 from 3pm until the time of the Memorial Service at 6pm at the Liston Funeral Home, 36403 Center Ridge Rd. , (at Stoney Ridge Rd.

), North Ridgeville. Chaplain Tom Pussel will officiate the service. Members from the Honor Guard of VFW Post #9871 in North Ridgeville will also conduct full military honors at the memorial service.

Burial will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in Westlake. The family wishes to send special thanks to O’Neill Health Care and Hospice in Bay Village for their support and loving care. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to O’Neill Healthcare in Bay Village.
