Philip Edward Funk, Sr. April 14, 1920 – December 20, 2018 Share this obituary Local Florists View/Sign Guest Book Philip Edward Funk, Sr., 98, of Middletown, VA passed away December 20, 2018 at Lynn Care Center of Front Royal, VA. A funeral service for Mr. Funk will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Stover Memorial Chapel with John Stephen Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Panorama Memorial Gardens with full military honors conducted by Shenandoah American Legion Post 77 Strasburg, VA.

Mr. Funk was born at Apple Pie Ridge in Winchester, VA on April 14, 1920, the oldest child of the late Marcellus Edward Funk and Mary D. Funk. He was a World War II Army Veteran, having served in the Philippines. Following the war, he worked for M. J. Grove for 36 and a half years.

After retiring from there, he was hired by the Town of Front Royal, VA where he worked for 34 years, retiring in 2016. He loved meeting the public and never met a stranger and was a member of the Front Royal Church of Christ. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy Louise Dinges Funk; a daughter, Marilynn; a great-great-granddaughter, Trinity along with six brothers and three sisters.

He is survived by a son, Philip Edward Funk, Jr.; two daughter, Juanita Tewalt (Eugene) and Colleen Shell; his lovely companion, Louise Link of Capon Bridge, WV; nine grandchildren; twenty seven great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Kenneth Funk (Margaret). Pallbearers will be Tim Tewalt, Troy Funk, Jamie Shell, Darren Funk, Brian Shell and Taylor Sandroni. Honorary pallbearers will be Billy Sears, Mark Derflinger, Webb Davis, Thomas Strickler, Malcolm Barr, Hollis Tharpe, Charles Carbaugh and William Sealock.

The family will receive friends at Stover Funeral Home on Saturday one hour prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Blue Ridge Hospice, 333 W.
