Obituary for Philip Michael Cone Philip M. Cone, 68, a resident of Calumet passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at UP Health System-Marquette. He was born on November 8, 1950 in Kokomo, Indiana to James Robert and Phyllis Ruth (McQuillin) Cone. During his youth, he and his family moved up to Calumet, and he graduated from Calumet High School with the Class of 1968.

At the age of 17, Phil enlisted with the United States Army. He served during Vietnam, and was honorable discharged on April 21, 1970. He was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commemoration Medal.

Phil was a fantastic athlete, playing for the Calumet Copper Kings boys basketball team and the football team. He also played softball for the local teams. Phil was the owner/operator of Cone’s Auto Body on Pine Street in Calumet.

He was highly skilled, and passionate about his work. Even after he retired, you would often find him in his shop. Phil was an avid fisherman, and loved spending time at the lake.

He also enjoyed partridge hunting and made sure to share his hunting knowledge with his kids. He was also a rockhound, often searching for the pieces of Greenstone and Datolite. Once he found that perfect piece, often you could find him focusing on making a piece of jewelry out of it.

Phil was an amazing guitarist, playing in many bands throughout the Copper Country. His favorite artist was Jimi Hendricks. He was also a prolific writer.

Phil was active and involved in all of his childrens lives. He was very proud of his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Phyllis Cone.

He is survived by his children: James (Janelle) Cone of Houghton Josh (Christine) Cone of Marquette Angela (Ben) Traczyk of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin Amy (Lorn) Randell of Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin Krista (Josh) Siler of Minneapolis, Minnesota His grandchildren: Tiia Wickstrom, Stella Wickstrom, Charlie Cone, Jude Cone, Shiloh Cone, Landen Traczyk, Sam Traczyk, Cale Randell, Miles Randell, Shelby Randell, Baby girl Cone, and Baby girl Randell, both due in the spring. His siblings: Shirley (Roy) Roland Deb (Curtis) Stahl Julie (Roger) Cosby Leo Cone Jennifer (Andy) Ertel And numerous niece, nephews, and cousins. The memorial service will be held on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 6:30 pm at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet.

Friends may call at the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home in Calumet on Friday, November 30, 2018 from 4:00 pm until the time of the service at 6:30.
