Philip Stanley June 21, 1931 – February 18, 2019 Share this obituary Send Flowers Sign Guestbook| Send Private Condolences| Send Sympathy Card Philip Stanley, age 87, of Opp, Alabama passed away on Monday, February 18, 2019 at the Opp Health and Rehab. Mr. Stanley was born June 21, 1931 to father, C.W. Stanley and mother, Jessie Page Stanley. Mr. Philip Stanley was a graduate of the 1949 class of Opp High School where he served as Senior class president and voted most likely to succeed.

On July 1, 1950, Philip married Jeanie Hickman Stanley. He served 6 years in The Alabama National Guard and was later called to active duty between 1950 and 1952 during the Korean conflict. He was a member of the First Baptist Church for over 50 years and served as a Sunday School Teacher, Deacon and in many other capacities.

Philip started working the Opp and Micolas Mills in August 1949 working in various departments until retiring on December 31, 1996, as President and CEO. During his 47 years with the Opp and Micolas Mills, he served as President of Alabama Textile Manufacturing Association, President of the Alabama Textile Education Foundation, Director of Mizell Memorial Hospital, President of the Opp Lions Club, President of the Opp Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Opp City School Board and Chairman of the Opp Historical Society. Mr. Philip Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanie Hickman Stanley.

He is survived by his daughter, Debbie Christ (Udo); sons, Donnie Stanley (Sherry) and Mike Stanley (Allison); 7 grandchildren, Jonathan Stanley (Natalie), Josh Stanley (Amy), Chase Stanley (Keri), Heather C. Cauley (Tim), Phil Christ (Kim); Jacob Stanley and Rebecca Stanley; 9 great-grandchildren, Sawyer, Drew and Jenna Stanley, Ella Stanley, Colton and Carson Christ; Fisher Stanley and Sophie and Jack Turk. Funeral Services for Mr. Philip Stanley will be Thursday, February 21, 2019 at 11:00 am at Wyatt Funeral Home Chapel with burial to follow at Peaceful Acres Memorial Gardens with Wayne Sharpe and Randy Breedlove officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, February 20, 2019.

Family will be receiving friends at his residence, 307 Sellers Drive, Opp, AL. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Stanley, Josh Stanley, Phil Christ, Chase Stanley, Jacob Stanley, Tim Cauley and Richard Woodham. Honorary pallbearers will be members of his Sunday School Class Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
