Phillip D Arnold , October 22, 1932 — July 03, 2018

Arnold, Phillip D . Phillip Daniel Arnold passed away Tuesday, July 3 of natural causes. A lifetime Baltimorean, he died at the age of 85.

Raised on Freeman Street in Brooklyn, MD, he was the son of Mary Hope Nicoll Arnold and Benjamin Franklin Arnold. Phillip Arnold was a twin, born on October 22, 1932 at his home in Brooklyn. He and his twin were the 16th and 17th of 19 total children for his father and the 1st and 2nd of 3 for his mother.

His twin brother, Paul Donaldson Arnold, previously passed away on December 31, 1984 after being hit by a drunk driver. Mr. Arnold enlisted in the Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany, where he served two years on active duty. He remarked that he quickly picked up the German language and loved the country, language and the people.

Phillip was a very selfless man, leaving school at age 14 to work in a bakery and then in the Modern Stamp Manufacturing Company of Baltimore to help support his mother. Even during his time in the Army, he would forego trips to interesting locales with friends to send money home to his mother. When he returned home after his service in the Army, he resumed his work at the Modern Stamp Manufacturing Company of Baltimore, where he worked until he retired.

He spent many of his years caring for his disabled mother and consequently never had a family of his own. After his mother passed away, he joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he was active in his faith. In fact, the congregation in Brooklyn Park met in his apartment for several months, until they were able to secure another location.

Mr. Arnold was a very talented and avid baker. He made the best peanut butter fudge and black bottom cakes. He was fun, funny and full of life.

His humor could liven up any gathering and kept everyone on there toes. He will be remembered fondly and lovingly by all who knew him. He is survived by his brother, David Lee Arnold, who currently resides in Florida; numerous nieces and nephews; his “adopted” family Patrick, Melissa and Christopher Crompton and many other friends and loved ones.

Phillip Arnold’s funeral will be held on Wednesday, July 11th at 11 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 900 Madison Avenue, Baltimore, MD 21201. The funeral will be preceded by a viewing from 9 to 11 AM.
