Phillip M. Verdi, age 73, of Geneva, died September 6, 2018 at The Cleveland Clinic after a lengthy illness. Born December 7, 1944 to Mario and Nettie (Langowski) Verdi, he married Mary Lee Blethen on June 4, 1966 in Ashtabula, OH. Phillip graduated from Kent State University with an associate degree and worked in sales for 40 years, recently as sales manager with A. Louis Supply Co., where he retired from in 2010.
Phil’s grandson Daniel is the pride and joy of his life. They would enjoy “boy’s day out” every Saturday. He enjoyed talking to people and sharing his strong Christian faith, and volunteering with Kairos Prison Ministry.
Phil also had his own personal hat ministry giving Christian hats to people expanding the Word. Later in life Phil picked up the hobby of percussionist, and would love to sit in playing with local musicians and praise bands. He also enjoyed helping others in need, riding his Harleys throughout life, and running and training for marathons.
He was a past Ashtabula Auxiliary Police Officer for a few years starting in 1966. He loved animals, especially his dog Crumbs, who was always by his side. Phillip is survived by his wife of 52 years, Mary Lee; daughter, Michele Verdi and grandson, Daniel Verdi, all of Geneva; sisters, Irene (Tom) Springer and Melodie (Tim) Lippold; brothers, Bill (Karen) Ponsart, Mark Verdi, Randy (Gerri) Verdi, Frank (Cheryl) Verdi; sister-in-law, Toni (Jerry) Leuch and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and brothers, Dennis and Robert Verdi. Friends will be received Saturday, September 15, 2018 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of an 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life service at Saybrook United Methodist Church, 7900 Depot Rd. Ashtabula, OH 44004.
