Obituary for Phyllis Blackwelder Phyllis Blackwelder, age 82, formerly of Old Hanging Rock Road in Newland, died Friday, April 13, 2018 at the Mitchell House in Spruce Pine where she had most recently resided. Born on January 28, 1936 in Iredell County, she was the daughter of the late James W. and Sara Morrow Brown. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her spouse, Cary Deaton Blackwelder.

Phyllis was an avid North Carolina Tar Heel fan. She enjoyed gardening, crafts, working puzzles and painting. Left to cherish her memories are her son; Dale Garrison and wife, Vicki of Newland; her grandchildren; Heather Bennett of Clover, SC; Nikki Bartels of Indian Land, SC; and Matthew Garrison of Supply, NC; five great grandchildren; and her sister; Carol Spears of Concord, NC.

Memorialization will be by cremation. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donation be made to; Alzheimers Association. The family would like to extend a special ‘Thank You’ to the Mitchell House for their wonderful care of Phyllis.
