Our mom was called home, April 22, 2018. She was born on Nov. 30, 1925 in Cove, Cache County, Utah.

A beloved daughter of Harold and Mildred Pugmire Hansen. Later Beverly and Harold Mckay (Bud) Hansen joined the family. They grew up in a two-room house, by a stream which she loved during the era of the Great Depression.

Shirley shared a bed with her Grandma Hansen and little sister. She played and worked in the fields, climbed the steep hill once or twice a day, rode sleighs during the winter and made lasting friendships. She said she wasn’t a rose type of girl, but a sego lily one.

Her headstone bears that symbol. She met Edward Knight Dana in 1936. She was 11 years old, he was 19.

Fast forward 9 years later, they exchanged marriage vows on May 26, 1945 at her Aunt Viola Preece’s house in Ogden. They purchased a farm from his Uncle Floyd Knight in View, Idaho after he completed his military service. They lived there for 9 years.

Their daughter, Evelyn, and son, Bruce, were born during that time. As did their sealing in the Idaho Falls Temple which took place October 24, 1947. Due to a back-injury Edward could not continue farming, so they moved to Ogden, Utah to find employment and live near family.

Shirley fully supported Edward in his moves to Arizona, Montana, and Oregon eventually settling down into family life on No. Wall Avenue. Attending church was always a big part of her life in the Ogden 15th Ward.

They lived there for 40 years before moving to Westwood Village. While living there Edward died on Aug. 3, 2011.

Shirley lived alone until she experienced ill health. It was a united decision to move her to The Family Tree in Morgan, Utah. Shirley could strike up a conversation with anyone.

She loved people, family, yard sales, canning, pretty things, and fair weather. She proved to be a remarkably strong, energetic woman throughout most of her long life. We would like to sincerely thank the staff of the Family Tree, Comfort Works Hospice, residents, and all who called or visited with her to brighten her last days.

Shirley is survived by Evelyn (Bruce) Giles, of Morgan, Utah, and Bruce Edward (Brenda) Dana, of Hyde Park, Utah; 12 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. Also, a brother, Harold Mckay (Mary) Hansen, of Hoquiam, Washington. Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and a sister, Beverly Hansen Moffat, and a great grandson, Connor Dana.

Service will be held Friday, April 27, 2018 at 11 a.m. at the Milton Ward Chapel, 1255 North Morgan Valley Drive, Morgan, Utah. A viewing will take place prior to the services beginning at 9:30 a.m. Interment at 3 p.m. at Richmond Cemetery, Richmond, Utah.
