Torrington: Priscilla Anne Carter Magee, of Winsted CT, the wife of Herbert J. Magee, died on Saturday, November 3, 2018, after a long illness. She was born in Hartford, the daughter of John A. Carter Jr. and Frances (Hanauer) Carter on January 13, 1931. She was a lifelong resident of Highland Lake, Winsted, and was the last of many generations of the Carter family to reside on East Lake Street.

Priscilla attended the Gilbert School in Winsted, then earned several degrees from Hillyer College (now part of the University of Hartford): an Associate of Arts in 1951, a Bachelor of Arts in 1953, and Master of Education in 1968. She excelled at studies of language and linguistics, as well as history for which she retained a lifelong passion. In 1985, Priscilla again became a student, achieving a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Education from Wesleyan University.

Priscilla was an elementary school teacher in the Barkhamsted system for many years, where she shared her love of language, social studies and the arts with generations of students. She also taught courses on special topics in art history at Northwestern Connecticut Community College, where she introduced many to European cathedral architecture, culture of the Middle Ages, Icelandic Sagas, and many other subjects. Priscilla also enjoyed numerous hobbies, including gardening, cooking, textile arts, fashion, and theatre.

She also enjoyed traveling with Herb, her husband of 48 years. Together, they visited every state in the United States and many countries in Europe including Britain, Ireland, Germany, France, and Denmark. They also visited Australia, Mexico and Iceland.

Survivors include her only child, Gillian M. Fenton and her son-in-law, Matthew J. Fenton, of Potomac, MD. Priscilla was predeceased by her husband Herb in 2003. A Celebration of Life service will be held at the Maloney Funeral Home on 55 Walnut Street, Winsted CT, on Saturday November 10, 2018, with visiting hours from 4:00 to 6:00 pm, followed immediately by the service at 6:00 pm.
