Quentine Cleade Spencer, age 90, of Eldon, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, March 26, 2019 at his home. Quentine was born on August 8, 1928 in Spickard, Missouri. He was the fifth son of Cleade Hall Spencer and Letha Faye (Fears) Spencer.

He and his loving wife of 64 years, Verna Johnson Spencer, had three daughters; Christina Louise, Cheryl Lynn, and Cynthia Lea. Quentine served his country proudly in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a member of the 16th Recon Company, 1st Cavalry Division from 1950 to 1952, attending NCO School at Camp Matsushima in Honshu, Japan. After returning from service, Quentine returned to work at Ellis Flowers and Gift Shop in Trenton, a move that would lead him to a rewarding career path.

In 1962 he and Verna bought the Eldon Greenhouse and moved their family to Eldon, where they served the community for 25 years. After a brief stint selling Lake Area real estate with Bell Realty and Jim Simpson Real Estate, Quentine returned to floral design work as the assistant manager of the Gerbes West Floral Department in Jefferson City, MO until his retirement in 2004. For over 40 years Quentine put his green thumb and design talent to use as he helped make beautiful area gardens, weddings, and other celebrations; passing on his expertise to his wife, daughters, and employees.

Quentine was a devoted member of the First Christian Church of Eldon where he served at various times as both Deacon and Elder. He enjoyed serving his community and was a member of various organizations including, the Eldon Fair Board, Eldon Park Board, founder of the Eldon Archery Club, Heart of Missouri Girl Scout Council board member, Kiwanis Club, and Jaycees. Quentine is survived by his wife, Verna, of the home; 3 daughters Chris and Phillip Hess of Rocky Mount, MO.

, Cheryl and Buddy Wood of Eldon, and Cindy Spencer of Eldon; 2 grandchildren, Angela Burris of Jefferson City and Cole Hawken of Eldon; 2 great grandchildren, Limia Burris of Jasper, MO and Andrew Burris of Eldon; and numerous nieces and nephews. Quentine is preceded in death by his parents, his 3 brothers, Doyle, Eldon, Emery (Pete), and an infant brother Junior, and 2 grandchildren, Emily Spencer and Sean Wood. Known by all for his infectious smile, generous spirit, and patient demeanor, Quentine will be missed by many.

He taught many the value of hard work and how good it feels to complete a task well done. Memorial gifts may be made in his honor to Central Missouri Honor Flight or the First Christian Church of Eldon. Visitation will be held at Phillips Funeral Home of Eldon from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 31, 2019.

Funeral Services will also be held at Phillips Funeral Home at 1:00 P.M. on Monday, April 1 with military honors following the service at the Eldon City Cemetery.
