R David Burns, January 31, 1927 — October 14, 2018

Obituary for R. David Burns Reginald David Burns, loving husband of Barbara Burns and father of Peter Burns (Gloriela), Tony Burns (Kim), Janine Barger (Steve) and Richard Burns, passed away on October 14, 2018. Born in Northampton, England, he was the son of Winifred Joyce Kean and Cyril Gandy. After Cyril’s death, Joyce remarried to Wallace Bruce Burns, whom David knew as his father.

David married Barbara Franks, the love of his life, in Perth, Australia in 1951. A short while later they moved to England where David went to college and began his career in engineering. David and Barbara and the four children moved to the U.S. in 1967 where David took an opportunity in the aerospace industry.

They retired to Greer, SC in 1992. David had many hobbies, including gardening and model shipbuilding, and he was an active member of the choir at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd in Greer. He will be remembered most for his friendly and generous nature, which endeared him to all whom he met.

David was predeceased by his wife, Barbara and brothers Keith Burns (Melbourne Australia) and Anthony Burns (Perth Australia). We will be forever grateful to the staff and administration at Rolling Green Village, who became a second family to David and Barbara (and our family). A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 19, 2018 at The Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Greer, SC conducted by Father Mike Schnatterly.

Visitation will be held following the service in the church parish hall. The families are at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a donation be made to the American Cancer Society www.
