Rajam’s Obituary Rajam Sarma, age 88, of Unionville, Connecticut, formerly a resident of Novi, Michigan passed away peacefully in her sleep on March 10, 2019. She was born on April 30, 1930 in Thiruvilwamala, Kerala, India. Daughter of Late T.K. Krishna Iyer and Rukimini Ammal.

Rajam was united in marriage to Late J.J. Sarma on July 9, 1947. They spent 31 loving years dedicated to one another as husband and wife until his death on January 26, 1979. Rajam was a devoted homemaker and taking care of her family was an important part of her life.

She was always smiling, warm and welcoming. She adored her grandchildren and great grandchildren and cherished the time they spent together. She was a wonderful cook and made delicious traditional South Indian food, often cooking for festive occasions and during family unions.

Rajam was an avid reader and liked to expand her knowledge through magazines, various articles and newspapers. She enjoyed sewing and embroidery and stitched many of her own clothing. She also enjoyed puzzles such as Sudoku and Crosswords, and watching Wheel of Fortune and Golden Girls on TV.

Throughout the years Rajam had many collections, and while she was amazingly organized, she liked to save things, especially memorabilia from her life and from those of others that she had spent time with during her life. Rajam was deeply religious; she was a active participant and supporter of the Thiruvilwamala Vilwadrinatha Temple in India where she was born and faithfully celebrated all Hindu religious days and festivities. Rajam is survived by her beloved children, daughter Kokila (huband Jothi), daughter Shashi (husband Anand), daughter Pushpa (husband Balakrishna), and son Murali (wife Lakshmi); her younger sister, Sharada; her grandchildren, Mallika, Ram, Smita, Shreya, Sheila, and Sandya; and her great grandchildren, Arnav and Anjali.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers T.K. Lakshmanan, T.K. Vaidyanathan and T.K. Sreeraman, and her older sisters Kaveri and Lakshmi. Private family services will be held. In lieu of flowers the family would appreciate memorial contributions to Forgotten Harvest.
