Obituary for Ralph Edmund Campbell Ralph was born in Providence, Utah, the son of Eletha and Hopkin B. Campbell. He was the fourth of five children. He is survived by his wife, Maxine, and four daughters: Anne C. Snyder of Albuquerque, New Mexico, Susan C. Purdy (Richard), of Tucson, Arizona, Carol C. Egley (Carl), of Ulysses, Kansas, and Mary C. Hubbard (Robert), of Eugene, Oregon, twelve grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren.

His parents, four siblings, and his beloved son, Brian, all preceded him in death. After High School graduation, Ralph served in the U.S. Navy for about a year at the end of World War II. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home to attend college.

He obtained a Bachelor’s degree, and Master’s degree in agricultural soil and water management at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. He continued his formal education at Colorado State University, South Dakota State University, the University of New Mexico, and Northern Arizona University. For over 34 years, he followed a research career in agriculture and forestry for the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

For an additional eleven years he was employed in a management position in the Chemistry Department at Northern Arizona University. He retired in 1994, but continued his search for truth with extensive reading, particularly in the biological sciences. He held many positions in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, including that of Bishop.

For many years, he was actively engaged in advocacy for the Gay community, and equal rights for all people. He was an exemplary father and husband, and a beloved friend to everyone who knew him. He will be buried next to his dear son in Cache Valley in Northern Utah at a future date.
