Obituary for Ralph Eugene Oates Ralph Eugene Oates, 84, of Madisonville, KY passed away, Sunday, October 7, 2018 at his residence. He was born October 27, 1933, in White Plains, KY to the late Melvin Oates and Nannie Oglesby Oates. He is also preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Jackie Cartwright Oates; one great grand daughter, Faith Angel; three brothers; and four sisters.

Ralph was a member of Grapevine Baptist Church for 54 years, where he was a deacon and usher. At the church, he started the Sunshiner’s Group with his wife, and at her death, the People Without Partners. He was a veteran of the Korean War, in which he was wounded.

He was also a bus driver for Hopkins County Schools and worked for Peabody Coal. Ralph was also a member of the Shriners and a Mason. He loved his faithful dog, Ben, which was always by his side.

His survived by his daughter, Susan (William) Haywood Gooden of Mt. Vernon, IN; two sisters, Linda Moore of Morganfield, KY and Jane Wiseman of Kuttawa, KY; two grandchildren, Ginger (Brock) Angel and Allen (Lauren) Rutherford; two great grandchildren, Riley Angel and Colby Angel; several nieces and nephews; and a large extended family. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M. Saturday, October 13, 2018 at Barnett-Strother Funeral Home.

Burial will be held at Lafayette Cemetery in Dawson Springs. Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. Friday and from 9:00 A.M. until service time Saturday at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Mr. Oates’s nephews.
