Cayce-Raymond “Ray” Sharpe, Jr., age 84, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Monday, November 26, 2018. He was born in Columbia, SC on May 9, 1934 and was the son of the late Raymond C. Sharpe, Sr. and Elvie Euthon Sharpe. Mr. Sharpe was a member of Trinity Baptist Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and on the Board of Trustees.

Additionally, he was a longtime benefactor of the Gideon’s International. He was a member of the Cayce Masonic Lodge where he served as Past Master. Mr. Sharpe became employed as an agency manager with Lexington County Farm Bureau in 1968 where he received numerous sales awards, retiring in 1998.

He served in the United States Army during the US-Korean Conflict. Mr. Sharpe graduated from Brookland-Cayce (BC) High School in 1953 and attended the University of South Carolina. While at BC, he was a member of the baseball team receiving numerous honors and played baseball for the University of South Carolina, American Legion and semi-professional baseball in San Antonio, Texas.

Mr. Sharpe still holds baseball records for pitching and batting at Brookland-Cayce High School and was inducted into the Brookland-Cayce Athletic Hall of Fame. Mr. Sharpe received a number of offers to play professional baseball but chose to manage his family’s business because of his ailing father. Services for Mr. Sharpe will be held at Trinity Baptist Church on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation will be prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Pallbearers will be: Floyd Keisler, Byron Sheppard, Donny Burkett, Gene Jackson, Steve Bowen, Larry Bass, Charlie Dunlap and Bruce Edge; honorary pallbearers will be the staff at Still Hopes and the Cayce Masonic Lodge.

Mr. Sharpe is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mary Love Parker Sharpe; sons, Ray Sharpe, III and Randy Sharpe (Lori); daughters, Cindy Peake and Lisa Breese (Alan); 10 grandchildren, Chris (Nicole), Jay and Zack Peake, Stuart (Chelsea) and Alexander (Grace) Sharpe, Randy Sharpe, Jr. and Michelle (Garrett) Creasman, Amanda Rawl, Samantha and Hannah Breese; and 4 great-grandchildren, Elizabeth Peake, Emerson and Olivia Sharpe and Anna Creasman. A special note of appreciation to the staff at Still Hopes in particular, Verney Jones and Robert Sumpter. Barr-Price Funeral Home and Crematorium, Lexington Chapel, is assisting the family.
