Obituary for Raymond Sanchez Jr. A Life to be Honored. A Life to be Remembered. Raymond Sanchez Jr., affectionately known as “Junior” began his journey on August 6, 1928 and peacefully passed away at Heritage Manor of Mandeville surrounded by loved ones on December 3, 2018 at the age of 90.
He was the eldest son of the late Raymond Sr. and Lucetta Green Sanchez. He was a dependable and loving family man. He was a lifelong resident of Violet.
He attended Violet Consolidated School leaving only to begin working to help his family earn money. He was an avid reader and could debate with you on any subject. His dedication to excellence and service were shown as he served his country during two tours of duty in the US Army.
He was united in holy matrimony to the late Mary Lee Bannister Sanchez and to this union four children were born: Ramona Moore (David), Ricardo Sanchez, Tyrone Sanchez (Cassandra), and Battina Williams. He worked as a laborer for the Archdiocese of New Orleans for over 40 years, retiring from St. Clement of Rome Church in Metairie, La. , in July 1998.
A few of Junior’s favorite past times were walking to visit with his sisters, mowing lawns in the community, and watching the Violet Bulldogs play baseball. He also enjoyed driving sports cars. He accepted Christ as his Savior at the New Birth Ministries.
Junior was the brother of: Mary “Noogie” Fernandez, the late Freddie Sanchez Sr., Doretha Blaise, Ethel Santiago, Roland Sanchez Sr., and Diana Bannister. He was the brother in law of: Yvonne Sanchez, Frank Joseph and Rita B. Williams. He cherished the role of Paw Paw to: Joseph Bailey III, Jerrard Bailey (Tene), Candice Tolbert (Chris), Steven Moore, Terrione Brock, Timothy Brock (Denean), Damena McCoy (Elliott), and Desiree’ Williams.

He was a Great Grand Paw to: Dante Tolbert, Christopher Tolbert Jr., Jerrell Verrette, Brandon Vicknair, Timothy Jr. and Trinity Brock, Kitrix Maddox Jr., Gabrielle Moncure, Gabriel Moncure, and David McCoy. He also enjoyed the company of his Devoted Friends: Rena Jones, Jay Williams, Joe & Vera Hills.
He adored his Devoted Neighbors: Parnell Payne Sr., J.C. Brown, Philip Jackson, and Kenneth Lawrence Sr., John and Cathy Graves. He is survived by a host of loving nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends. Relatives, friends, and members of: New Birth Ministries, Christian Fellowship Family Worship Center, Greater Starlight Baptist Church, St. Clement of Rome School, Woodlake Elementary School, Covington High School, Delta Air Lines, Violet Bulldogs, Heritage Manor of Mandeville, St. Catherine’s Hospice of Laplace, all neighboring churches of St. Bernard and Plaquemines Parishes are invited to the Home Going Celebration at Christian Fellowship Family Worship Center, 5816 E. Judge Perez Dr., Violet, La 70092, on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. Visitation begins at 10:00 a.m. Bishop Henry Ballard, Host Pastor, Elder David Clayton Sr., Officiating.
